Abe Vigoda is dead. He was 94.

The actor passed away in his sleep at the home of his daughter Carol in New Jersey.

His death is believed to be from natural causes.

Vigoda, of course, is best known for the TV series "Barney Miller" and "The Godfather" films.

Vigoda initially worked in theater, with his career dating back to the 1940s.

After work on Broadway, he landed the role of Salvatore Tessio in 1972's "The Godfather," and had a brief appearance in the classic movie's sequel in 1974. It was in 1975 that he began playing Sgt. Phil Fish on "Barney Miller." He brought his character to a short-lived spinoff called "Fish."

Vigoda is survived by his daughter Carol and grandchildren, as well as a great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Betty, who died in 1992.

Vigoda was previously wed to Carol’s mother, Sonja Gohlke.
