Xmas Engagement: Matthew McConaughey Proposes to Camila Alves
By Kat Giantis
Santa brought Matthew McConaughey a very special gift this Christmas: a fiancée. The laidback actor, 42, celebrated the birth of the baby Jesus by popping the question to longtime love Camila Alves.
"Just asked camila to marry me," the former bongo enthusiast and onetime Sexiest Man Alive revealed Sunday night on Twitter and WhoSay. "#Merry Christmas."
The Brazilian model and mother of his two adorable kids, 3-year-old son Levi and 23-month-old daughter Vida, presumably said yes. The newly chrome-domed star shared a photo showing the couple locking lips in front of a Christmas tree.
McConaughey began dating in Camila, 29, in 2006, and he has called her the "love of my life."
"I found the woman I wanna do it with, the woman I wanna make a family with," he declared to the April issue of Esquire, "hopefully live our life out together.
Still, he's been noncommittal about making things legal, pointing out that his parents married each other three times and divorced twice.
"I've been around healthy marriages. I knew I wanted a family and I found a woman I love and felt was right for me,'" he told the April issue of Cigar Aficionado. "But marriage -- it's not something we feel we need to be complete. It doesn't mean we won't do it."
And now that they are going to do it, expect nuptials that are classic McConaughey.
"I'd have to be buck naked in the Amazon," he's joked. "I'd go tribal before I'd go Vegas." But even he has limits: "I've thought, 'Do I want a huge wedding, or do I want to elope?' Eloping wouldn't go over well with Mom."
As we send our congratulations to the happy couple, let's take a look back at their tight-knit family unit ...
