Jared Fogle was beaten in prison by a fellow inmate.

The incident took place in late January at the Englewood Federal Correctional Institution in Colorado, where Fogle has been imprisoned since November. A prisoner named Steven Nigg jumped the former Subway spokesperson in the prison’s fenced-in yard. During the surprise attack, Nigg repeatedly punched Fogle in the face, leaving him with a bloodied nose, scratches on his neck, and swelling.

Nigg, who is 60 and behind bars for armed robbery, was left with a small cut. As punishment, he was placed in solitary confinement, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ. It’s unclear if the two had any interaction prior to the altercation, but Nigg supposedly targeted Fogle because of his specific crimes. The Englewood facility has a large number of sexual predators, likely in part due to a program it offers to rehabilitate sex offenders.

As Gossip Cop reported, Fogle pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography and travel with the intent of having sex with minor. As part of a plea agreement, he expected to get a maximum of 12 years in prison, but the judge, who was not beholden to the deal, sentenced him to more than 15.

Fogle is appealing the sentence, arguing that he should have a new hearing because the judge allegedly penalized him for not just actions, but thoughts as well. As of now, though, his earliest possible release date isn’t until 2029, while Nigg’s is 2024.
