Entertainment Tonight Nigel Lythgoe -- executive producer and judge of "So You Think You Can Dance" and producer of "American Idol" -- talks to ET about Paula Abdul's future as a judge and the future of "Idol." Nigel tells ET that "SYTYCD" absolutely has a place for Paula as a guest judge on the show. "I don't know anybody who has had her experience," Nigel says of the former judge and pop star. "Being a dancer, a choreographer and a judge, I have been trying to get her since season one." Nigel says he spoke with Paula on Wednesday morning but did not get into negotiations. "We are going to Las Vegas for season six. [Paula] is coming out to meet me and we are talking about her opportunities." He continues, "Mary [Murphy] and I are the solid full-time judges and we have a rotating chair. I don't mind a fourth guest judge every now and again. I don't want four full-time judges. It should be about the contestants and not the judges. I am not talking about filling a third chair or a fourth chair." The producer says of "Idol" without Paula, "I have said it before. 'Idol' is bigger than any one judge. Simon is not a judge over the world, nor Randy Jackson. It is the format that is successful, the young talent and Simon Fuller's concept of the country getting behind and creating the next star." "If Simon [Cowell] and Ryan [Seacrest] ever find out what I am making they will want to double their money," Nigel jokes, reacting to reports of Ryan's $45 million contract with "Idol." As for Paula returning to the hit show, Nigel responds, "Until 'Idol' goes on air, there are always possibilities of negotiations." "American Idol" is set to return to television in January 2010. #inlineGalOuter{ margin-top:10px; text-align:center; } #inlineGal { background-image:url('http://entimg.msn.com/i/grandprix/inlineGalleryBg.jpg' ); background-repeat: no-repeat; height: 334px; width: 452px; padding: 14px 24px 0px 24px; } #inlineGalHed { font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 7px; text-align:left; } #inlineGalImageDiv { padding: 2px; border: 1px solid #b3c9e0; width: 442px; } #inlineGalViewAll { font-size: 13px; text-align: right; margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 8px; } Photos: Paula Abdul View all » Related stories on ETonline.com:Marilu Henner Honors Nigel Lythgoe for Humanitarian EffortsNigel Lythgoe Talks 'American Idol''s Next Season
