LOS ANGELES (AP) — An AEG Live LLC executive has denied that he pushed Michael Jackson to rehearse for his ill-fated comeback concerts.
Paul Gongaware refuted earlier testimony from Jackson's makeup artist who testified last month that she overheard the promoter telling the singer's assistant to get him out of a locked bathroom and to a rehearsal.
Gongaware is testifying in a negligent hiring case filed by Jackson's mother against AEG Live. Katherine Jackson's lawyers claim the company failed to properly investigate the singer's personal physician. They also contend AEG pushed Jackson to rehearse, despite signs of his declining health.
AEG denies any wrongdoing.
Gongaware said Jackson wasn't required to rehearse for his "This Is It" shows. He said he had no concerns about Jackson's health in the days before the superstar's 2009 death.
