The Hollywood Reporter -- Reviving a popular program it initiated in 2007, the American Film Institute will hold a special one-night-only event, "AFI Night at the Movies," at the ArcLight Hollywood on April 24.
The program consists of a dozen classic movies, each of which will be introduced by one of its starring actors. The lineup ranges from 1967's In the Heat of the Night, which will be introduced by Sidney Poitier, to 2001's Shrek, which will be presented by Mike Myers.

AFI has decided to revisit the program, which was held in 2007 and 2008 but has not taken place since. "What we've discovered time and time again is that audiences have an enormous appetite to see and experience movies on the big screen," AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale says. "To have the talent there to introduce it, makes it all the more powerful."
The films and artists confirmed to participate include Kathy Bates presenting Misery (1990); Cher, Moonstruck (1987); Sally Field, Norma Rae (1979); Peter Fonda, Easy Rider (1969), Harrison Ford, Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982); Samuel L. Jackson, Pulp Fiction (1994); Shirley MacLaine, Terms of Endearment (1983); Demi Moore, Ghost (1990), Myers, Shrek (2001), Kurt Russell, The Thing (1982), Kevin Spacey, The Usual Suspects (1995) and Poitier, In the Heat of the Night (1967).
"It's simple, and yet it's grand in scale," Gazzale says. "Some film festivals unspool over two weeks, and we do it in two hours."
For the third time, Target will return as the presenting sponsor for "AFI Night at the Movies," and Magnum Ice Cream will introduce its newest product.
"Target is proud to once again present 'AFI Night at the Movies,' where film enthusiasts get the chance to experience iconic films in a truly unique and memorable way," says Shawn Gensch, senior vp marketing at Target. "Target is honored to bring together some of Hollywood's most legendary actors and filmmakers for one special evening."
Adds Nick Soukas, director of ice cream at Unilever: "Through our strong relationship with Target, Magnum is thrilled to deliver indulgences to legendary artists and audience members at 'AFI Night at the Movies,' a spectacular celebration of American film."
Tickets to each individual screening are $30 and will include a large popcorn and soda, as well as a Magnum ice cream bar. Tickets go on sale April 11 at 10: a.m. through the ArcLight Hollywood website and at the ArcLight Hollywood box office at 6360 West Sunset Blvd.
