Aloha, Angelina Jolie! The Academy Award winning actress arrived at Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii on Sunday, July 7, with sons Maddox and Pax in tow. Smiling broadly behind sunglasses, the Maleficent star, 37, donned a black tank top and pants, while Maddox, 11, wore a gray V-neck and matching beanie. Pax, 9, walked at his mother's side and clutched a stuffed bear that he kept over his face.
"Angelina was smiling and talked to several people at the gate who greeted her and her sons with 'alohas' and 'enjoy your vacation,'" a source tells Us Weekly. Jolie mentioned how warm it was in the terminal, the source adds, and said it felt good "because the airplane was a bit on the chilly side."
Jolie is in town to scout locations and meet with local production people to prep for her new movie, Unbroken, according to an insider; She made her directorial debut in 2011 with the war drama In the Land of Blood and Honey. Based on the novel by Laura Hillenbrand, Unbroken tells the story of Olympian-turned-WWII prisoner-of-war Louis Zamperini.
"Most of the Oahu locations will be on current and former military installations to stand in for U.S. bases during World War II and a Japanese POW camp," the insider tells Us. "The production also will use an Oahu high school football stadium to stand in for an Olympic track stadium."
The project will be Jolie's first film endeavor since getting a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year. She next appears in Walt Disney's Maleficent, where she plays the titular Sleeping Beauty villain. The film is slated for a July 2, 2014 release.
