Back in black! Angelina Jolie looked elegant as ever on Monday, July 29, when she screened her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan. The Oscar-winning actress wore dress from Michael Kors' Fall 2013 collection featuring a fitted bodice and flared satin skirt with a tulle underlay.
"When I started down the road, making this film, I thought only of telling a story and doing my best to try to give a voice to survivors," Jolie, 38, told the audience. "But today I am here not only as a director, but as a campaigner, and a part of a global effort that is growing every day."
Jolie -- a special envoy to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees -- used the event as an opportunity to speak out about sexual violence towards women. "Our aim must be to shatter impunity, so that rape can no longer be used as a weapon of war anywhere in the world as it was in Bosnia, and as it is today from Congo to Syria," Jolie explained. (In the Land of Blood and Honey, set in war-torn Bosnia, earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film in 2012.)
The first-time director, who underwent a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year, changed into a black, one-shoulder Saint Laurent dress for her fiance Brad Pitt's World War Z premiere later that night. The actors -- parents to Maddox, 11, Pax, 9, Zahara, 8, Shiloh, 6, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 5 -- looked more in love than ever, cozying up to each other on the red carpet and giving each other flirty glances.
Jolie will next direct Unbroken, the true story of a World War II pilot who was taken hostage by Japanese soldiers after crashing into the Pacific Ocean; she scouted filming locations in early July. Jolie next appears in the Disney movie Malecifent, slated for release in July 2014.
