The back and forth continues. On the day that a photo surfaced showing Ben Affleck meeting his former children's nanny, Christine Ouzounian, outside his rented Los Angeles-area home, a source has now come forward to deny any romance.
"There has never been a romantic or sexual relationship," a source tells People magazine.
"Ben's friendly, but it's not always meant to be flirty," the source said in the magazine's cover story. "This was a very close relationship with someone who was taking care of the most important people in his life."
The "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" star is incredibly friendly, and, the source said, "People want to fault him for that."
Not that any of that matters to his estranged wife Jennifer Garner, though. In Us Weekly's newest issue, a source says, "She is disgusted with Ben... Discovering the extent of Ben's relationship with Christine completely changed things."
"She hasn't been responding to his texts either," a close insider says of the mom to Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. "She refuses to speak to him about anything other than the kids and has shut him out."
Ben has been under fire ever since a tabloid story claimed that he was having an affair with Christine. Ben has denied an allegation of an affair. His rep called the reports "complete garbage and full of lies." However, multiple outlets have confirmed that something was going on, and that Jen is livid about it.
"To Jen, this is the ultimate betrayal," a source previously said. The source close to Affleck said that Ben and Christine only had a "work relationship and a friendship."
The affair is said to have happened after Ben and Jen had separated, but before they formally announced the end of their marriage in late June. The alleged affair is not the reason the marriage failed, though. People quotes a source who said Jen's "constant nitpicking" had an affect on Ben.
"When you are made to feel like an inadequate husband over and over again," the source says, "your friends are going to say maybe this isn't working out."
The nanny seems to be just another nail that was put into the marriage coffin, but not necessarily the final one.
Christine was let go by the former couple after working for the family for a "matter of months," media reported. Her closest friends thought she was being strangely tight-lipped about the reason for her firing, it's been reported, though Ben wrote a glowing recommendation letter on her behalf.
Clearly, after the firing, Ben and Christine have maintained some sort of relationship, platonic or otherwise. In the newly released photo, taken on July 17, Ben is seen coming out of the house to greet Christine, who was driving his car. He appears to be holding a box. Entertainment Tonight reports that she was also seen driving Ben's Lexus earlier in the day to run errands, and she spent about two hours at the house before leaving.
A source even previously said that Christine tipped off the paparazzi so that they could get photos of the late night rendezvous.
"This is not easy for [Ben,]" a source told People. "It's hard not to pay attention to the stories that are being written about you, but he continues to focus on what is most important, his family."
