Beyonce, Destiny's Child Reunite for Explosive Super Bowl Halftime Show
It's official: This is Beyonce's world, and everyone else is just living in it. After the Grammy winner's lip-synching controversy at President Barack Obama's inauguration in January, the pressure was on for her to deliver a live, showstopping halftime performance at the Feb. 3 Super Bowl in New Orleans. And deliver she did.
As the lights came up on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, fiery pyrotechnics lit up the field to reveal the 31-year-old singer standing alone on a platform. Stunning as ever in a Rubin Singer black leather-and-lace bodysuit and knee high stiletto boots, the gorgeous star kicked things off with a high-energy performance of "Crazy in Love," complete with an army of leather-bustier-wearing backup dancers. She followed that with a similarly explosive version of "Til the End of Time." At that point, a screen appeared behind her, with holograms of the singer and her entourage performing "Baby Boy."
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. As Us Weekly revealed exclusively in January, Beyonce was joined onstage by her Destiny's Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. Midway through "Baby Boy," the leather-clad duo rose up from the ground and launched into a performance of "Bootylicious," followed by "Independent Women." It was the trio's first live show together since 2007, but their chemistry was as fierce as ever.
Beyonce continued the epic set with her smash hit "Single Ladies," for which everyone in the Superdome was given light-up rings. Her army of dancers grew until the entire stage was filled with people doing the now-famous routine. As she sang, "If you like it, then you should've put a ring on it," the stadium lit up with flashing lights.
The big finish was a stunning solo rendition of her hit "Halo." By the time she belted out the last note, the applause was deafening.
"Thank y'all!" she shouted into the adoring crowd. "Thank you so much for this opportunity!"
Earlier in the day, Jay-Z's wife opened up about the significance of her performance via a YouTube video. "I was on my way here and I was looking at the Superdome, and I felt very proud because I know this is my legacy," she said in the clip.
"I'm really happy it's in the South...It feels nice to be where my family is from -- Louisiana," she continued. "It feels like everything is coming back around full circle."
