Chelsea Handler's one true love isn't Andre Balazs: it's her career.
The talk show host and bestselling author, 37, graces the September cover of Marie Claire @Work, where she explains why her job will always take precedence over a man. "I'm definitely worried about maintaining my relevance and not wanting to go too far out of bounds to accommodate someone else," Handler explains.
Though her tell-alls and television shows are omnipresent, Handler doesn't see herself as an "aggressive or ambitious" businesswoman. "I know it doesn't seem like that, but I don't feel like, 'Oh God, I've got to do this, I've got to do that,'" the New Jersey native says. "I have severe ADD, and I'm constantly looking to amuse myself."
When her NBC sitcom, Are You there, Chelsea?, was canceled in May 2012 after just 12 episodes, Handler didn't see it as a failure. "Creatively, it was a really good lesson, and I knew I was due for one. I can't just throw my name on something and hope everybody gets it. Everything I've done has been really fortuitous, but you don't learn a lot when everything's easy all the time."
Handler -- who has become close pals with Jennifer Aniston, 42, Reese Witherspoon, 36, Charlize Theron, 37, and Kate Beckinsale, 39, in recent years -- says her current focus is on E!'s Chelsea Lately.
"There's no long-term goal," she tells Marie Claire @Work. "I just know I'm on a contract for two years and in the interim I'm gonna do whatever I can to make that as fruitful as possible, and try and get as much success as I can for the people around me."
