Only a superhero could take down Harry Potter.

Captain America: The First Avenger -- starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell and Sebastian Stan -- debuted at No. 1 with an estimated $65.8 million. The two-hour Marvel Comics movie performed better than last week's top earner, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which fell to second place with $48.1 million in its second week (bringing its domestic total to $274.2 million).

Friends With Benefits, the raunchy rom-com starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, debuted in third place with $18.5 million, which was slightly behind the $19.7 million earned by the similarly themed No Strings Attached (starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman) in January.

Experts predict that once Sunday's final results are tallied, Captain America: The First Avenger will outperform fellow super hero movie Thor, which debuted with $65.7 million in May. (Both movies debuted to much stronger numbers than Green Lantern and X-Men: First Class.)
