Danity Kane Reuniting Without Former Manager Diddy
Show-stopping just might not ever stop! Nearly five years after Danity Kane -- Shannon Rex, Aubrey O'Day, Dawn Richard, D. Woods and Aundrea Fimbres -- broke up following some turmoil with manager Diddy, it looks like the girl group has plans for a comeback.
Rex, O'Day, Richard and Fimbres were all seen getting lunch with a new manager on Monday, May 13, making plans to record a new album and tour together. When TMZ asked them if they were working with Diddy, 43, on their reunion, the girls responded "No" before O'Day turned around and quipped, "Who's that?"
Of course, the "Damaged" singers know all too well who Diddy is. Formed by the music mogul on MTV's "Making the Band" in 2005, he managed them through two certified platinum albums, 2006's Danity Kane and 2008's Welcome to the Dollhouse.
The group was soon plagued by multiple tensions in 2009 -- Diddy reportedly kicked out O'Day, 29, following a few on-camera fights, and supposedly favored Woods, whom he was grooming for a potential solo career. Following O'Day's departure, Diddy soon fired every other member, excluding Dawn Richard.
In a MySpace post at the time, O'Day blogged about her departure from the group, wishing no ill will to the other girls.
"I will forever be blessed to have had that experience," O'Day wrote. "Each one of those girls is a talent to be reckoned with … and beyond pure talent, which I hands down experienced on a daily basis from each girl, each girl really did want to be a role model and change the world in their own little way."
In April 2013, O'Day sparked reunion rumors when she Instagrammed a pic of herself with Richard, writing, "We're starting a new verse like…"
No word yet whether Woods, who's released her own mixtapes and EPs in recent years, will reunite with the group on their new venture.
In a 2009 interview with Hollyscoop, Woods, 28, spoke honestly about the split, saying at the time, the group "came to an end when it needed to."
"There was a lot of outstanding issues and obviously that was the only way it could be resolved," she said. "And I know that I did my very best in the situation … I provided us with choreographers, with management, song writing, and everything that I could. But if your services are not being appreciated, you gotta take it elsewhere."
