About four dozen family members and close friends gathered Thursday afternoon to say their goodbyes to Elizabeth Taylor.
Just after 2 on Thursday afternoon, five stretched limos began pulling up to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif. for a private service, reports the Associated Press.
The storied mausoleum is the final resting place of many Hollywood legends, including Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, and Taylor's close friend Michael Jackson.
On Wednesday Taylor died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The two-time Academy Award-winner was 79.
"She was surrounded by her children: Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd and Maria Burton," said her publicist, Sally Morrison.
And son Michael Wilding Jr added: "We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."
In lieu of flowers, Taylor's family -- four children, ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren -- asks that donations be made to Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
