The partners have said in recent months that they planned on getting married in a small ceremony in England when the time was convenient, based off of their travel plans and careers.
"We'll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children [there]," John said in an interview with Matt Lauer in March 2014. "For this legislation to come through is joyous and we should celebrate it. We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we're not going to bother to get married'. We will get married."

The couple underwent a civil partnership in 2005 and have been together for more than 2 decades. As soon as same-sex marriage became legal in England, they announced that they would marry. The couple has two children, Zachary, 3, and Elijah, 23 months.

"We'll go to the registry again and we'll take the boys with us," Furnish told People in March after the English law was changed. "Take along the one or two witnesses that we need and make it very small and intimate."
"Call it flag bearing," David Furnish said. "We're living in pivotal times. I think if you have an opportunity to live by example and make people aware of positive changes in our society, I think it's a great thing."
