Rooney Mara has transformed herself from the preppy Boston college girl in 'The Social Network' to the edgy, dysfunctional and brooding woman in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.'
W magazine -- on newsstands Jan. 25 -- posted one of the first pics of Mara in character. The actress was cast opposite 007 star Daniel Craig to play the pivotal role of goth computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in 'The Social Network' director David Fincher's take on the first book of the late Stieg Larsson's hugely popular Millennium Trilogy. Craig takes on the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who is asked to solve a decades-old mystery.
W reports that Mara's eyebrows were bleached, her hair chopped off and her lip, brow, nose, ears and nipple pierced for the part. "I didn't even have pierced ears," she told the magazine. "They put four holes in each ear, and, weirdly, that hurt the most. It was all very organized. With David, everything is measured and carefully considered. He wants what he sees in his head."
'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' began shooting this fall in Sweden, scheduled for worldwide release December 21, 2011. 'The Girl Who Played with Fire' and 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest' are the other two films of the proposed trilogy. The book series was also made into a movie trilogy in Sweden and actress Noomi Rapace played the role of Lisbeth.
