Jake Gyllenhaal is going all Method for his role in "Nightcrawler." The actor has not only dropped an alarming amount of weight to play a crime reporter, but on Wednesday morning, he became so immersed in his character that he ended up in the emergency room.
Seems Gyllenhaal sliced his hand after breaking a mirror during a particularly intense scene.
"Jake flipped out," a source tells People. "His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."
Gyllenhaal, 32, received "numerous stitches" but was back on the Los Angeles set a few hours later. "His character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror," the actor's rep explains to Us. "Unfortunately, the mirror broke and Jake's hand was badly cut up."
According to the People insider, the injury was simply the result of a dedicated thespian responding to the rigors of working an 18-hour day on a low-budget film.
"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror, and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him," says the spy. "It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else."
No word on whether he's upset about the seven years of bad luck he's now facing.
