When it comes to protests, Scout Willis isn't quite up to Norma Rae's standards. The daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore ditched her shirt on Tuesday and took a stroll around Manhattan to protest Instagram's nudity policy. She tweeted a pair of photos of her topless outing to make a point about how the social media site bans pictures of breast cancer survivors and breastfeeding moms.
"Legal in NYC but not on Instagram," Willis, 22, captioned one photo. On the other, she wrote, "What @Instagram won't let you see #FreeTheNipple."
When one follower told her she was exploiting herself, she responded, "I feel very empowered and brave though, not exploited. People have been incredibly supportive."
The protest was apparently prompted by Instagram deleting a photo Scout posted showing her wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with two topless ladies, a violation of community guidelines. The site forbids users from posting "violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos or other content."
"My comfort with my body should not be dictated by how others perceive me," said Willis, whose Twitter avatar is the nipular magazine cover that got Rihanna tossed off Instagram. "However, I don't wish to force this view on anyone. If you don't like what you see, simply unfollow me."
Willis's Instagram has been deleted.
