The rumor mill really wants to play matchmaker for Katie Holmes, who's been single since escaping from Tom Cruise in the summer of 2012. It wants it so much that it's throwing two very different bachelors into the mix. Let's start with In Touch, which resurrects recent rumors that she's surreptitiously seeing Jamie Foxx.
"Katie and Jamie have been dating for a while," alleges a source, who undermines any and all credibility by adding, "They're very 'Mission: Impossible' about their romance."
Other evidence, such as it is: Holmes supposedly took Foxx's limo home from his New York hotel one morning last month.
The actress was first linked to Foxx in August, when the two cut a rug at a Hamptons charity fete, and he purportedly put the moves on her by grabbing her posterior.
At the time, her rep told us they were simply "old friends" (the actor co-starred with Cruise in 2004's "Collateral"), while a source insisted to Us Weekly that Katie "was flattered but not interested."
Foxx, for his part, laughs off the rumblings.
"[The rumors] are one hundred percent not true," he assured "Entertainment Tonight." "In fact, it's quite hilarious because we simply danced at a charity event along with a lot of other people."
Meanwhile, Grazia magazine (also known as Grain of Salt Weekly) has a far less believable tale based around Holmes' Oct. 1 appearance at the New York premiere of "Gravity."
She was photographed offering a quick, congratulatory hug to the film's star, George Clooney, which was enough to spark the hookup talk, despite the Oscar winner's aversion to dating tabloid targets and/or women with kids.
"Katie really has her sights set on him. There is a genuine connection," contends a source, who maintains the two have met up a few times in recent days. "Katie and George have known each other for years … and have always got on. Katie has had a crush on him for ages. … They are enjoying their new flirtation. He's a fun guy with buckets of charisma and Katie loves his company."
OK, so maybe a boulder of salt might be more appropriate. Either way, there were no bachelors in sight when Holmes winged from New York to Los Angeles on Tuesday with 7-year-old daughter Suri.
