Hangover Part III Review: Tired and Uninspired
In Theaters: Now
Maybe the Wolfpack should have disbanded after they got home from Las Vegas. Since then, their adventures have grown tired and uninspired, and this time out is no exception.
At least audiences get a fresh premise: Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) must track down crackpot on-the-lam thief Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) and deliver him to John Goodman's drug goon. (Or, as Chow refers to him twice, "a fat f--k.")
The dudes trek from Tijuana, Mexico, to Las Vegas, to carry just a few jokes in their baggage. The bulk of them belong to the surreally odd Galifianakis, who even milks hilarity out of licking a lollipop. Cooper and Helms, meanwhile, are underutilized as exasperated straight men.
Somewhere between Phil shimmying down the front of Caesars Palace and Mr. Chow on all fours eating dog food, it becomes clear how far the franchise has fallen.
A sad reminder of the original's spark: the flimsy scene in which Alan talks to the tot he memorably bonded with in the first movie.
