Hilary Duff has been singing and acting for decades, but recently took on a new challenge: life as a New Yorker.
"I am loving living in Brooklyn. It is a great experience," she told reporters while promoting her new TV Land series "Younger" -- which films in and around New York City -- during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., in mid-January. "I even got a little Brooklyn tattoo [on my right bicep]."

Duff, 27, says she was initially reluctant to head to New York from her home base in Los Angeles following her January 2014 split from husband Mike Comrie, with whom she's coparenting son Luca, 2. "I got a call from Darren [Star, who also created 'Sex and the City'] and he was like, 'I've got this new show and I think you would be perfect for it and I really want you,'" she explained. "And I was like, 'I can't move to New York right now. I have stuff in my personal life. And my baby.' I am a young mom and I have been enjoying that. And he was like, 'No, no. You should just come.' And I was like, 'I'll be there."

So she packed up, rented an apartment and brought Luca with her. "He loved New York. He didn't want to leave. He loved getting to walk everywhere," she shared of her son, who's "all about the 'Cars' movie" right now and " really into racing and boy things."

Duff also spoke about her sister Haylie Duff's first pregnancy, which the food blogger announced in December. "She is funny. We were going to have lunch together and she is like, 'I am stressing hard right now -- I just Googled 'stretch marks!'" And I was like, 'Don't do that!'" Duff shared. "I've got some and they look way better than they did in the beginning. And look at what I have to show for it -- a little boy who is amazing. I will take 10 more."
Duff also addressed a topic that always comes up: her body. "I hate to diet. If I have got to get in shape in a few days -- or if I have a week or two weeks -- obviously cutting alcohol, cutting salt, cutting carbs [is what I do]," the 5'2" actress explained. "Working out, training, focusing. Not staying out late -- just normal stuff."
