Worn up, down or in between, a new hairstyle can instantly change your image. Ahead of the holiday party season, Us Weekly illustrates -- on Emma Watson, Kerry Washington and Lauren Conrad -- how the same cut can be worn three different ways.

PLAYFUL PONY: Party trick: "I keep bobby pins tied with an elastic," the author (on October 22) has said. She uses them to tame flyways.

DEMURE WAVES: On October 13, stylist Kristin Ess curled Conrad's hair at eye level to "keep it elegant, not over-the-top sexy," she tells Us.
