Country star Jason Aldean is in love and he doesn't care who knows it!
The country star is engaged to former "American Idol" contestant -- and his former mistress -- Brittany Kerr, the singer's rep confirmed to Us Weekly.
The singer reportedly popped the question during the West Coast leg of his tour. How he asked is still a mystery, but Brittany gave a nod to her new fiance on Instagram on Thursday, when she posted a shot of herself at the San Diego Zoo with a caption that read: "My man did it again. Today was amazing #sandiegozoo #myeverything"
The engagement news comes about a week after Jason defended his relationship with Brittany, telling Billboard that people need to "get over it" and halt the continued ridicule following his cheating on his ex-wife, Jessica Ussery, with Brittany.
"It has been two years of this s---," he said. "Obviously, a lot of that stuff is my own deal. But I could go post something on my page right now that says, 'Hey, we just donated $5 million to a children's cancer research center,' and somebody would get on there and go, 'You're an a------ cheater.'"
Jason added that he refused to live out his relationship in secret. "If me and Brit want to go on a date, I'm not going to say, 'We need to eat dinner at the house, and sneak in the back door of the movie theater.' That's ridiculous."
After he was spotted kissing Brittany in a Hollywood bar in September 2012, while he was still married, Jason reportedly tried to sever ties with his wife, with whom he shares to daughters. The singer filed for divorce the following year.
Jason and Brittany proudly made their relationship known on the red carpet at the CMT Awards in June. Wonderwall sources say the pair packed on the PDA backstage.
After a barrage of backlash following the outing, Jason wrote on Instagram in July: "So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they know nothing about. I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it, and wouldnt change a thing. Im happier than i have ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on. Its time to move on people."
