Bardem is a baddie once again!

Javier Bardem has officially signed on to play the villain in the as-yet-untitled 23rd James Bond film, he recently confirmed to Christiane Amanpour on Nightline.

"I am very excited," the Spanish-born actor, 42, said. "My parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them. So to play that is going to be fun."

Bardem won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2007 for playing a very scary villain indeed, a fictional serial killer named Anton Chigurh, in No Country for Old Men.

No details yet on Bardem's character in the upcoming Bond film (rumored to be titled Skyfall), the follow-up to 2008's 007 flick Quantum of Solace. "They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details," teased Bardem, who has a 10-month-old son, Leo, with wife Penelope Cruz.

Also up in the air: Whether Daniel Craig -- Bond in the past two films of the franchise -- will reprise his role as the British agent.

Actor Idris Elba is among the names supposedly in the running to fill Craig's shoes.

"It's a rumor," Elba, 39, said recently."I just don't want to be the black James Bond. Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond, and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond."
