Jennifer Lopez Defends Controversial Britain's Got Talent Bodysuit
The "Live It Up" singer, 43, was widely criticized by viewers for the pelvic-thrusting provocative choreography she performed while wearing the skimpy leotard. One of Lopez's choice dance moves? Lying down on her back, she opened her legs in a straddle position with the camera above her. A tweeter even wrote of Lopez, "She's an artist, not a prostitute."
But while talking to The U.K. radio station, BBC Radio 1, on Friday, May 31, the former American Idol judge defended her look, saying she didn't understand all the flak she received.
"I think people are so much raunchier than I am," she said. "I feel like I’m so tame. [I] wore it at Billboard and Britain’s Got Talent said they wanted exactly the same. So I thought I’d wear the outfit in black."
She continued, "No one complained at Billboard. I think people just like to talk. It was a bodysuit. A lot of performers wear that these days. It is standard stage clothes. I’m not going to walk down the street like that!"
Lopez said she wasn't worried about wearing the high-cut outfit because she wore the necessary undergarments to avoid any wardrobe malfunction from happening.
When asked if she was wearing underneath the leotard, she answered, "Sure, absolutely. I’m a pro -- I know what I’m doing. I would never take those types of risks or anything like that."
Lopez, mom to 5-year-old twins Max and Emme, said that she personally enjoys wearing the outfit since she can dance easily, avoiding any injury with thigh-high boots that protect her knees.
"Luckily with that outfit, which is why I wore it on Billboard and in Britain’s Got Talent, is that I can wear a very small knee pad underneath, cause I have those tall boots," she said. "I was so happy that I could wear it as I was very raw from rehearsals and I cut it open the day before."
