The star was served while he attended the red carpet screening of new sci-fi film "Transcendence" at the Regency Village Theater, according to TMZ.com.
The website's editors report the legal papers relate to the upcoming trial of Nancy Lekon, who is accused of killing a pedestrian with her car in 2009, and has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Lekon reportedly claims to have been in a relationship with Hollywood heartthrob Depp at the time of the incident, so her lawyer has asked for the star to testify at the trial.
