So meaty! Jon Hamm's days of going commando are over, according to The New York Daily News. An AMC insider claims that while the 42-year-old actor was filming the sixth season of the Emmy-winning series Mad Men, he was politely asked to wear underwear while donning his character Don Draper's snug suits.
"This season takes place in the 1960s, where the pants are very tight and leave little to the imagination," a source tells the newspaper. "Jon's impressive anatomy is so distracting that they politely insisted on underwear." The source adds that Hamm's "privates are the inside joke" among crew members, and the actor "knows what he's got."
Hamm's bulge has been on the forefront of the network's mind since Mad Men premiered in July 2007, the source continues. "Imagine how distracting that would be on the side of a bus or building," the insider said of Hamm's penis. "When the promotional pictures came back the first few seasons, we had to work with them. Everyone was concerned about too much Christina Hendricks boob, but it's Jon that has the most to show. It's a good problem to have."
The source claims that during the show's first two seasons, AMC's marketing team was also forced to digitally minimize Hamm's privates for its promotional materials. A rep for the Golden Globe winner, however, is not amused by The New York Daily News' report.
"It is ridiculous and not really funny at all," Hamm's rep told the newspaper. "I'd appreciate you taking the high road and not resorting to something childish like this that's been blogged about 1,000 times."
Hamm, meanwhile, is focused on his character's emotional development -- and not his evolving wardrobe. "I think Don's life has been one out of balance for quite some time. Not to get too Life of Pi on anyone here . . . but we find out more in season 6 about why Don is how he is. And why Don does what he does. His house is built on a weak foundation. He's a fundamentally damaged and broken guy," the actor explained at a press junket in L.A. March 16. "I would advise him to fix that foundation. And then work on the house."
Mad Men's two-hour season 6 premiere airs April 7 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
