"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi said "I do" to Mike McCuddy, her schoolteacher-turned-contractor boyfriend, in a small ceremony held in Prospect Harbor, Maine, this weekend.

Kara told In Touch that exchanging vows in front of about 30 close friends was an "unbelievable" experience.

"When I looked out at the church and saw all these people that were so important to me and Mike, who were there for us ... It was pretty powerful. I was very emotional and I'm not somebody who breaks down and cries," she said.

The couple first met when McCuddy bought the house next to Kara's in Maine. At first, the groom-to-be was a bit nervous about Kara's "Hollywood" life. But Kara reassured him that her day-to-day routine was more about watching "Law & Order" than it was writing Grammy-nominated songs, facing off with Simon Cowell, or prancing onstage with infamous bikini-clad "Idol" contestants.

McCuddy proposed back in December after the couple had been dating for about a year and half. It was, she recalls, a proposal that was appropriate for her down-to-earth lifestyle. When McCuddy popped the question, "I was in, of course, my thermal smiley-face pajamas that one of my best friends gave me for Christmas," Kara told People magazine.
