Kelly Preston, 48, and husband John Travolta, 56, welcomed baby Benjamin Travolta into the world right before Thanksgiving last year, and Kelly opens up about why she chose to have a silent birth.
Silent births are quite common in John and Kelly's Scientology religion. "Silent birth is basically just no words as much as possible," the actress explained to "Today" show correspondent Natalie Morales in an interview that aired Wednesday. "If you need to moan, if you need to cry out ... of course that's normal. But, it's just bringing them in, in as peaceful and gentle a way as possible."
Kelly gave birth to Benjamin, an eight-pound, three-ounce baby boy, in a Florida hospital. She disclosed why she chose a silent birth, saying, "My kids have always been amazing. Just very calm, very peaceful, happy and I absolutely know it's very much because of that."
In addition to their newborn Benjamin, John and Kelly have a daughter Ella Bleu and their son Jett passed away in 2009 following a seizure during a family vacation in the Bahamas. The 'Casino Jack' actress told "Today" that Benjamin has helped them to heal following Jett's death. "It's been wonderfully healing. Of course, you know, we still -- it's still every day. But it's been, I think, a really nice gift for a lot of people throughout the world."
