When Us Weekly exclusively broke the news in July 2013 that Simon Cowell had impregnated New York socialite Lauren Silverman, Silverman's husband Andrew -- once a close friend of the British producer and TV personality -- was the only person involved who stayed relatively quiet.
Now, nine months later, Cowell and Lauren are now parents to son Eric (born on Valentine's Day), and Andrew has seemingly moved on. Speaking publicly for the first time to the New York Observer, Andrew was careful not to bash the "X Factor" judge or his ex-wife, but recalled the pain of last summer's events.
“It was a very difficult time in my life. I learned a lot, moved forward," Andrew mused. "My core business has continued to move forward. I learned a lot about myself as an individual, the importance of family. My focus has been on my son throughout the whole ordeal.”
The real estate mogul shares son Adam, 8, with his ex, and admitted that though she's currently enjoying her new-found spotlight, Lauren still remains a committed mother.
“I think for both of us, making sure our son has a normal environment is the primary focus,” he continued.
And when it comes to Cowell's fame and his ex-wife's involvement, Andrew isn't jealous.
“Being in the public spotlight is not something I envy. It’s never been my way,” he said. “Privacy has tremendous value. I’ve tried to be as quiet as possible even though everyone wants to hear about this hoopla.”
Andrew's brother Alex, who works with him at their father's company, Andalex, says the affair and resulting scandal was “never something we would have expected," noting that their own parents have been married for 39 years.
But Andrew is eager to move on and to put his wife's indiscretions behind him.
“I just wanted to refocus on what I do,” he said. “I am a regular person, not a tabloid thing. It was a fascinating experience, unexpected and shocking.”
