Lawrence Taylor appeared in court Thursday, facing charges that he raped a 16-year-old girl.
Bail for the football great was set at 75,000, and a temporary restraining order was granted to the alleged victim until October 6, 2010.
A lawyer for Taylor said in court, "Lawrence Taylor is denying these charges. … He's a caring and loving family man."
Ramapo, New York, police commissioner and town supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence told ET on Thursday that the victim was reported missing in March of this year and there has been an active investigation in New York City by the NYC Police Department and her uncle to find her.
According to the police commissioner, the victim was brought to Taylor's hotel room in Montebello, New York by a "pimp." The "pimp" is said to have taken the victim back to NYC after the alleged rape occurred and she was able to text her uncle.
The victim's uncle then called the NYC police and the "pimp" was arrested and placed into custody. He is to be charged in NYC and will most likely also be prosecuted in Ramapo. Evidence was taken from his hotel room.
In a press conference today, the police said that Taylor was very cooperative and that there were no drugs found in the hotel room. They did say that there was alcohol in the room but Taylor did not appear to be intoxicated.
The former football player was a contestant in season eight of "DWTS," dancing with pro partner Edyta Sliwinska.
