Actress Leah Remini has issued her first reaction to reports that she has left the Church of Scientology and thanked the public for overwhelming support she's received for the decision.
"I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support," the former "King of Queens" star said in a statement.
The New York Post reported on Thursday that Remini -- one of several major celebrities who have been longtime members of the church -- has decided to cut ties after disagreeing with certain practices of the religion.
The actress alleged that she was interrogated for years after inquiring, at a function, as to the the whereabouts of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige's wife, Shelly, according to the Post. She reportedly also questioned the church's requirement for followers to "disconnect" from family members branded "suppressive persons."
