Mario Machado, L.A.'s first-ever Asian-American newscaster and an actor in movies including Scarface and Robocop, died Saturday, May 4. He was 78.

Born in April 1935 in Shanghai, China, Machado first made his mark as a news anchor at local stations including KNXT and KCBS-TV in the 1960s.
