The wardrobe budget must have been tight when Matt Bomer guest starred in the Dec. 8 episode of NBC's The New Normal.
"I just showed up and said, 'Where did you need me?'" the 35-year-old actor said of his barely-there wardrobe. "I didn't ask too many questions."
In his first scene, the actor did suspended ab crunches will wearing skimpy black athletic shorts -- the first of many shirtless scenes.
The married father of three played the part of Monty, who previously dated expectant father Bryan (Andrew Rannells). "He's a party boy who's trying to get his act together," Bomer said of his character. "He just doesn't know the right way to do it yet."
At the beginning of the episode, viewers learned that Monty and Bryan broke up because they had opposing views about settling down and raising a family. Two years later, Monty and Bryan were on the same page -- but the former had no idea how to start a family of his own.
Bryan and his partner, David (Justin Bartha), then decided to set him up with their fertility specialist, Gary (Michael Hitchcock). In the midst of a candlelight dinner, Monty became enamored with the couple's surrogate, Goldie (Georgia King), and asked if she would do the same for him.
In the end, Goldie announced she didn't want to be a surrogate again, as she had dreams of her own to pursue. As luck would have it, her decision prompted Monty and Gary to reconnect -- and give parenthood a shot.
This isn't the first time Bomer has guest-starred on one of Ryan Murphy's television shows: in April 2012, he appeared on Glee as Blaine Anderson's (Darren Criss') older brother, Cooper.
The New Normal airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC. Bomer headlines the USA series White Collar, which returns with new episodes Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 10 p.m. EST.
