The bed where Michael Jackson took his last breath is up for sale along with hundreds of other items from the mansion where the pop icon spent his final days.
The home in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles and all its furnishings were leased by Jackson and his three children from December 2008 until his death on June 25, 2009. "We want to preserve the history of these items," celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions, tells the Associated Press.
Next month's auction will include various antique furnishings, paintings and sculptures that surrounded the King of Pop as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts, as well as items found in the room where Jackson died. The queen-size bed that has been shown in evidence photographs was in a bedroom actually considered a "medication room" by Jackson's team.
In addition to Jackson's death bed, the upholstered chairs smudged with Jackson's makeup from the "medication room" will also be auctioned off.
Jackson maintained an adjacent bedroom only for himself that was regarded as his inner sanctum. It is in this second bedroom that the pop star wrote a message to himself on the mirror of an antique armoire that will be sold in the auction. "TRAIN, perfection, March April. FULL OUT May," the message reads. At the time, Jackson was preparing for a series of comeback concerts scheduled to begin in London in July 2009.
Another item up for sale will be a note from one of his children that remains on a chalkboard inside the home's sprawling kitchen, where three barstools were lined up against the center island -- presumably for the kids. "I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it's for free," reads the chalkboard, which will be sold as-is.
Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray was found guilty on Monday of involuntary manslaughter in the pop star's death by supplying Jackson with the powerful anesthetic propofol to help him sleep.
Highlights from the sale can be viewed at a free exhibition at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif., beginning Dec. 12, with the auction itself taking place Dec. 17.
