Michael Phelps may be retired from swimming, but the Olympian is ready to start a new career -- on the golf course!
The 22-time Olympic medalist will be appearing on Season 5 of the reality TV show "The Haney Project" in February 2013, the Golf Channel reports.
In the show, host Hank Haney helps amateur golfers improve their game. "I have traveled the world through swimming, but really haven’t had an opportunity to experience the world through my travels," Phelps, 27, said in a statement. "As I enter this next chapter of my life, I think I will be able to shift my competitiveness to anything I put my mind to and golf is one of the things I want to focus on."
"If I have a goal of dropping a certain amount of shots, or working on my short game or putting, those things are going to keep me motivated and fire me up and keep me excited. I want to play all the world's great golf courses, but I'd like to play them well," he added. "I'm excited about this project with Golf Channel and I'm looking forward to working with Hank and see what we can do together on the golf course."
Another reality show possibility for Phelps and other Olympians? ABC's Dancing With the Stars. Phelps told Us Weekly in London last week that he would consider competing for the Mirror Ball trophy.
"I haven't really been known for my dancing. I know everyone who's done it -- I've talked to Apolo [Anton Ohno] and Natalie [Coughlin] about it, and they said they've enjoyed it and had a blast," Phelps said. "I won't say I'm ruling anything out, who knows?"
And Phelps' former teammate, Ryan Lochte, said he'd be happy to compete against him. "Since I'm so used to competing against Michael Phelps, I'd have him on the [Dancing with the Stars]," Lochte, 28, told Us. "I could do Dancing with the Stars! Yeah, I think so."
