Museum exhibitions come to movie theaters
NEW YORK (AP) — Coming soon to a movie theater near you: museum art exhibits from around the world.
The people who have brought live Metropolitan Opera performances to big screens across the globe are now venturing into the art world.
It begins Thursday with an Edouard Manet (MAN-ay') exhibit from the Royal Academy of Arts in London. It will be screened to 450 U.S. theaters and about 600 across the globe.
Two more shows— one featuring the works of Edvard Munch (MUNK) and another with Johannes (YO'-han) Vermeer — are already lined up to get the big-screen treatment.
The presentations are actually slickly produced documentaries with noted art historian Tim Marlow taking viewers on a VIP guided tour of the galleries. Producers see it as a way to bring arts to millions around the world.
