Oprah Winfrey is kicking back in the August 2013 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. Looking radiant as ever in Maui, the 59-year-old TV mogul splashes her legs in the pool while addressing her magazine's readers. "I hope that you can find a nice pool to sit by, because there are some hot days in August," she says in a behind-the-scenes video from her cover shoot. "That's all I've got to say about this issue. We're just trying to get through the summer, 'cause it's hot!"
In her recurring "What I Know for Sure" column, Winfrey shares some of her favorite summer memories. "This time of year I like to be barefoot as often as possible, walking across an earthy carpet of freshly mown grass," she says. "Wow, it feels so good!"
"Another wow: Every night at sunset, friends and neighbors gather on my front porch to watch what we call the greatest show on Earth," she continues. "We take pictures and compare the color variations of each magnificent light show as the sun dips below the horizon."
The host of Oprah's Next Chapter says she often finds herself in awe of the world around her. "Sometimes the smallest offerings are the ones that open my soul to its splendor," she writes. "For my birthday this year, Diane, a florist who has created spectacular arrangements of every sort for me, gave me one of my most treasured gifts ever: two small leaves shaped like hearts. I keep them pressed between the pages of my favorite book, Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth. Every time I open it, I am reminded how simple and beautiful life can be -- if we choose to see it that way."
The August "Wow" issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, is on stands July 16.
