California Highway Patrol officers told The Desert Sun that Hilton, 19, was driving his BMW on Interstate 10 just before 12:30 p.m. when he attempted to change lanes and clipped the back of a Volkswagen Beetle. From there, he apparently hit a tractor trailer before "coming to a stop on the side of the road," the paper reports.
Per The Desert Sun, investigators have determined that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident. Officer Stephanie Hamilton said, however, that Hilton had been speeding, and that "several motorists called him in for reckless driving."
After emergency response crews freed him from his car, Hilton was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. The Desert Sun says the CHP described his injuries as "major," but TMZ reports he suffered just a hand fracture and "a few cuts and bruises."
