Sad day in New York City. A private funeral for Philip Seymour Hoffman was held at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan's Upper East Side on Friday, Feb. 7. Many celebrities were photographed looking somber as they made their way to the ceremony.
Cate Blanchett, dressed in all black and dark sunglasses, attended with husband Andrew Upton. The actress, who costarred with Hoffman in The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999, took time off from TV appearances this week to "grieve for the loss of her friend," her rep told The Hollywood Reporter.
Hoffman's Doubt costar Meryl Streep was photographed outside the church bundled up in a royal blue winter coat and black scarf. Other celebrity friends in attendance included Justin Theroux, Ethan Hawke, Amy Adams, Ellen Burstyn, Spike Lee, Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore and husband Bart Freundlich, Joaquin Phoenix with girlfriend Allie Teilz, Louis C.K., Mary-Louise Parker, John Slattery, John C. Reilly, Jerry Stiller, Marisa Tomei, Justin Long, Diane Sawyer, Mary-Kate Olsen and boyfriend Olivier Sarkozy.
Hoffman, 46, was found dead from an apparent heroin overdose on Feb. 2. The Oscar-winning actor is survived by his longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell, and their three children: Cooper, 10, Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5.
An eyewitness tells Us Weekly that O'Donnell arrived with her children, carrying daughter Willa, and followed the casket into the church.
A private wake for Hoffman was held in New York City at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Manhattan's Upper East Side on Thursday, Feb. 6. Many of the same stars who attended the funeral were also in attendance at the wake, including Adams, Blanchett, Phoenix, Streep, Williams and Theroux.
