President Obama Congratulates Kate Middleton, Prince William on Royal Baby
The congratulatory messages keep pouring in! After Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their firstborn son on Monday, July 22, the new parents received an outpouring of love from politicians, celebrities and other royals. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are among those who have reached out to the couple, whose baby boy is now third in line to the British throne.
"Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child," the commander-in-chief, 51, said in a statement. "We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings."
Barack added, "The child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations. Given the special relationship between us, the American people are pleased to join with the people of the United Kingdom as they celebrate the birth of the young prince."
Michelle, 49, shared her sentiments via Twitter. "Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son!" said the Illinois native, mom to daughters Malia, 15, and Sasha, 12. "Being a parent is the best job of all." (The Obamas first met the royal couple during a visit to Buckingham Palace in May 2011.)
Prince William and his wife, both 31, also received well-wishes from British Prime Minister David Cameron. "I'm delighted for the Duke and Duchess now that their son has been born," he told reporters. "The whole country will celebrate. They'll make wonderful parents."
The royal baby -- who has yet to be named -- weighed 8 lbs., 6 oz. at the time of his birth. "We could not be happier," the Duke of Cambridge said in a statement shortly after.
