Prince Albert of Monaco's Weekend Wedding: New Details!
When Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock said "I do" in a second, religious wedding ceremony Saturday, they sure did it in high style.
Kenneth Tarver, a tenor vocalist from Detroit, was hand-picked to perform at the royal nuptials and tells Us Weekly exclusively that the star-studded bash was like something out of an opulent fairytale.
"It was absolutely amazing to participate in such a historic moment with such interesting people and for such interesting people," Tarver told Us after the weekend ceremony, where he performed the Paul McCartney song "Celebration" and other Mozart numbers during the Roman Catholic Mass.
Performing for the royal newlyweds and celebrities including Naomi Campbell and designer Karl Lagerfeld, Tarver says the mood in the courtyard of the prince's royal palace was electric.
"Everyone was in awe of the Princess," Tarver says of 33-year-old former Olympic swimmer Wittstock, who walked down the aisle in a flowing off-white silk duchesse Giorgio Armani gown with a 15-foot train featuring floral embroidery and Swarovski crystals.
One of the ceremony's most emotional moments, says Tarver, was when the couple said their vows in French. "There were a lot of tears," the singer tells Us. (Prince Albert, 53, and his bride officially became husband and wife one day prior, on Friday, in a civil ceremony.)
"As the Prince was leaving [Saturday's ceremony], he looked at me and said 'Thank you' which was just so kind and such an example of his nature. I really [got] the impression the newlyweds are wonderful people. I know everyone who met the Prince felt he was so sincere and very kind. He's a real Statesman, a great guy."
The couple capped off their three-day wedding celebration with a fireworks display, 450-person dinner and concert by Jean Michel Jarre.
"This is Monaco: An extremely wealthy place, and you [could] sense [the ceremony was] other worldly, like a fairytale," Tarver told Us.
