Janelle Monae will be joining Prince on stage in Chicago!
On Wednesday, Prince, 54, announced that the 26-year-old singer will be a supporting act for his Sept. 26 "Welcome 2 Chicago" show at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. The concert will be in support of Rebuild the Dream, which is a mobilization of the creative community to fix the economy from the ground up.
Monae, who is a face of CoverGirl, told MTV News back in November 2010 that she was "honored" to be chosen by Prince to be a part of his tour. "It's definitely one of the things that I wanted to do in my career, is tour with him," she shared. "And it just means a lot that he's a mentor to me and he loves the stuff that we're doing and he's going to help out every way he can to make the show phenomenal."
Tickets for Monae's show with Prince are currently on sale at LiveNation.com. Prince will also be performing at the United Center on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25.
"We couldn't be more excited about partnering with a legend like Prince," Van Jones, Co-founder and President of Rebuild the Dream, said in a statement. “Our economic system is broken. Rebuild the Dream exists to unite arts and organize into a potent force to support the Dreams of Our Communities. There are few artists who have Prince's unwavering commitment to a vision of a sustainable, fair economic future."
