Prince William Searches for Missing Man on New Year's Day
Prince William's work is never done.
After ringing in the new year, the Duke of Cambridge, 30, took part in a search and rescue mission from RAF Valley in Anglesey, England, Dec. 1. William and three Sea King crew members were dispatched to look for a 41-year-old man who was swept into the sea by strong winds in Blackpool.
The incident occurred when the man was walking his dog with a friend. The second man was able to swim to safety and make a call for help just after midnight Dec. 31.
William -- an operational captain in the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force -- worked with his three crew members, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a police helicopter and coastguard units to search the waters for 90 minutes. Fifty minutes into their quest, the wind became too strong, forcing William and his crew to stand down. The search was suspended and will resume again Dec. 2.
William had originally intended to spend New Year's Eve in Scotland with his pregnant wife, Kate Middleton, 30. Their plans changed when he was put on call for search and rescue duty.
