'Prometheus 2' Already in the Works?
Did an earthquake almost derail the Prometheus production? What's the Prometheus creature like? Was Ridley Scott pissed that he didn't direct Aliens? Are there plans for a Prometheus 2 already? The elusive, legendary director reveals spoilers and more in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, and we have a sneak peek.

In theaters June 8, Prometheus stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce in a story of groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
That battle involves a terrifying creature, and according to Scott it grows and changes into at least four different forms in a way that Rapace calls "every woman's worst nightmare."

Of course, following the mega-success of 1979's seminal Alien, the franchise grew with three follow-up films and two Alien vs. Predator prequels. It turns out that rather than passing on the opportunity to direct Aliens, Scott was passed up – and not pleased. "I was really pissed off, frankly," he says about not getting a shot at the action-packed 1986 film that helped to propel James Cameron's career.
That contractual snub haunted the Oscar-winning filmmaker, and for years he had considered a return to the Alien franchise. But don't call Prometheus a prequel: "I don't like the word 'prequel' because it communicates to an audience that they already know the ending," says Scott.

The 87-day Prometheus shoot, budgeted at an estimated $120-130 million, took its crew from London to Iceland to Jordan's Wadi Rum desert. The Arab Spring forced the production to change locations from Morocco to Iceland, and it was there at the Dettifoss waterfall -- right by the Hekla volcano -- that an earthquake shook the crew. Fortunately, the incident did not derail the production.
Next up for Scott may actually be the follow-up to Prometheus -- he hopes it will come next on his slate. But he's also developing a biopic about Brit writer/spy/T.E. Lawrence companion Gertrude Bell, possibly starring Angelina Jolie, and then of course there's that Blade Runner sequel, which is being written by the original film's co-screenwriter, Hampton Fancher.
