Queen Elizabeth was taken to the hospital Sunday, March 3 for gastroenteritis. After becoming ill on Friday, the 86-year-old monarch went to King Edward VII Hospital in London as a "precautionary measure," a spokesman for the Queen tells the BBC.
"She was not taken into hospital immediately after feeling the symptoms," the spokesman says. "This is simply to enable doctors to better assess her."
Buckingham Palace says she's "in good spirits," and her engagements for the week will be canceled or postponed.
The Queen's grandsons Princes William and Harry are currently in Switzerland attending Olympian Laura Bechtolsheimer's wedding to Mark Tomlinson. William's pregnant wife Kate Middleton was photographed resting her hand on her growing baby bump.
