Queen Latifah's Production Company Partners With Netflix
Hip hop's first lady is coming home. Queen Latifah and business partner Shakim Compere are bringing their production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, to homes across the country via a multi-year deal with Netflix, a rep for the actress announced in a release on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Flavor Unit, which has produced such films as 2003's Bringing Down the House and 2010's Just Wright, will release its titles exclusively to the online streaming platform starting this spring.
"Shakim and I are thrilled to do business with Netflix," the 42-year-old singer-songwriter said in a statement. "Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects."
And the feeling is mutual. Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, added that "Queen Latifah has a long track record of creating hits and Flavor Unit Entertainment is a fresh and exciting voice in the industry."
Latifah's brainchild most recently produced the Lifetime Original Movie Steel Magnolias, starring herself, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott.
Flavor Unit is also currently producing upcoming thriller House of Bodies, starring Terrence Howard, and Percentage, starring Macy Gray.
