Russell Brand Hosts Give It Up for Comic Relief Charity Event
Russell Brand is a stand up guy. The comedian hosted a charity event on March 6 at Wembley Arena in London to raise money to help those who are affected by drug and alcohol addiction in the UK.
The 37-year-old British star organized the Give It Up for Comic Relief event that featured stand-up comedy and musical performances by Nicole Scherzinger, Noel Gallagher, Jessie J, Jimmy Carr, Jake Bugg, Emeli Sande, Paloma Faith, Frankie Boyle, Doc Borwn, Kasbian and John Bishop. Proceeds from the night went to Comic Relief.
Comic Relief CEO Kevin Cahill said: "Comic Relief has funded work tackling substance abuse for many year. We were thrilled when Russell Brand offered to highlight the issue and raise funds to help tackle the problem," CEO of Comic Relief, Kevin Cahill, said in a statement. "It's a perfect use of his celebrity profile to front the 'Give It Up for Comic Relief' gig and work behind the scenes to put it all together. He has played a blinder."
And the Rock of Ages actor was happy to host.
"Give It Up was amazing," he tweeted March 8. "All performers great. Frankie Boyle, excellent and adored anyone there would testify."
