After a warrant went out for Russell Brand's arrest earlier Thursday over a photographer's claim that he grabbed a cellphone and threw it through a window, Brand turned himself in to a New Orleans police department. He currently remains in custody.

According to a TMZ report, Brand snatched a paparazzo's cellphone from his car when the man began to film him, and threw the phone through the window of a nearby building on Monday night.

Brand has yet to make an official statement regarding the incident but made reference to it in a comedic tone on Twitter, writing, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
