Sacha Baron Cohen Spills Kim Jong-Il's Ashes on Ryan Seacrest?
Dust to dust!
As promised, Sacha Baron Cohen walked the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards in Los Angeles in character as the General, the despotic, titular character of his upcoming flick The Dictator. (The satiric provocateur, 40, was granted permission by the Academy to go in character on Friday following a rumored ban from the awards fest.)
The star took advantage of his big promotional moment while chatting with E!'s Ryan Seacrest during the pre-show red carpet -- spilling the alleged ashes of North Korea's late Kim Jong-il all over Seacrest's Burberry tux!
Joked Cohen as "The General": "I'm wearing John Galliano," he said of Galliano, the former Christian Dior designer ousted from the label after an anti-semitic rant. "The socks are from K-Mart...Saddam Hussein once said to me, socks are socks, don't waste money!"
Holding up a golden urn with the visage of Kim Jong-il (who passed away in December at age 69 after a long tyrannical rule), "The General" said of his Oscar moment, "It gave me an opportunity to bring my dear friend and partner, Kim Jong-il."
Kim Jong Il was famously a Hollywood movie buff -- with 20,000 DVDs in his personal collection; he ran his country's film industry.
Said Cohen in character: "It was his dream to to come to the Oscars and the red carpet."
As he continued (making an off-color joke about "Halle Berry's chest) Cohen "accidentally" spilled the urn -- and all of its ashy, dusty contents -- onto a miffed Seacrest.
As the E! star and American Idol host continued to host celebs, he had to explain his dirty tuxedo. Marveled Jennifer Lopez, wearing Zuhair Murad as she brushed him off: "What happened?!"
Said "The General" after The Academy announced its Friday decision to allow him to attend: "Victory is ours! Today the mighty nation of Wadiya triumphed over the Zionist snakes of Hollywood."
